Chamblee’s 2024 Milestones: A Year of Growth, Innovation, and Community Impact

Our community accomplished a lot in 2024! the City of Chamblee has made remarkable strides across various sectors, demonstrating our commitment to growth, innovation, and community well-being.
I'm incredibly proud of everything we accomplished in 2024, but keep in mind the list below is in addition to the the everyday work each department executes regularly. With that said, here are some of the key achievements from the past year.
Special Projects, Economic Development & Mayor/Council Initiatives
Chamblee Sustainability Roadmap – Adopted in November 2024, setting a framework for a greener city.
Affordable Housing – Successfully completed year two of the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing Program.
City Center Project Development – Progressed with the issuance of an offering memorandum and the selection of a developer.
Lifeline Animal Showcase – A key initiative led by the Mayor and Council.
Creation of Public Facilities Authority – Enhancing city infrastructure management.
Ukrainian Delegate Visit – Hosted an international delegation in May 2024.
Capital Projects
Completed the 5300 Peachtree Road sidewalk project.
Under Construction: N. Shallowford and N. Peachtree Road roundabout (completion expected early 2025).
Funding Secured for Fishbolt Park’s design and construction (set to begin in 2025).
Design & Engineering Initiated for Chamblee Dunwoody Road Diet and Roundabout, Broad Street Streetscape, and other infrastructure projects.
Paving & Road Striping improvements throughout the city.
Chamblee-Doraville CID Partnerships:
Completed East/West Railroad Crossing Feasibility Study.
Completed Peachtree Boulevard Pedestrian Enhancements.
Peachtree Boulevard Realignment Project – In progress.
Communications
Implemented livestreaming for city meetings.
Upgraded video and editing equipment to enhance storytelling.
Revamped Discover Chamblee Magazine with new content and visuals.
Parks & Recreation
Passed the Parks, Trails, and Outdoor Recreation Bond with 81% voter approval.
Public Art & Festivals: Installed multiple art pieces and hosted successful events, including:
Chamblee Chalk Walk and Arts Festival.
Babe Walls Mural Festival (20 murals covering 6,700 sq. ft.).
Dresden Park Groundbreaking in June; construction on track for summer 2025 reopening.
Police Department
Achieved certification from the Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.
Reduced Part I crimes by 15% as of November 2024.
Established the Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU) and Citizen’s Advisory Committee to foster community relations.
Planning & Development
Code Enforcement Division achieved full staffing and handled 4,084 cases by October 31.
Comprehensive Plan Update approved in October 2024.
Completed Dresden Park Small Area Plan for future development.
Facilities & IT
Migrated city buildings to smart-building control systems for efficiency.
Enhanced transparency with Capital Projects Dashboard & Public Arts Map.
Migrated 100 TB of police body camera data to the cloud.
Finance
Maintained Moody’s Credit Rating.
Issued two Revenue Bonds for city development projects.
Completed 2023 Audit with no findings.
Municipal Courts
Partnered with Chamblee High School’s Mock Trial Team.
Launched Qmatic Queue Management System to improve efficiency.
Public Works
Repaired Hurricane Damage, including a major Chinatown Mall sinkhole.
Implemented Cartegraph Asset Management System.
Launched a successful glass recycling program.
Human Resources
Expanded employee wellness initiatives.
Implemented strategic benefit changes to reduce future costs.
Community Engagement
Launched the Neighborhood Engagement Program in two communities.
Hosted six Live on Your Block events.
Won multiple awards, including the 2024 Visionary City Award and recognition from the Southeastern Festivals and Events Association.
Expanded major city events, including the Chamblee 101 class, Summer Concert Series, and Taste of Chamblee.
Hosted the first Chamblee Arts Festival and International Night Markets.
Legislation & Policy
Passed multiple ordinances and resolutions, including:
Mileage Cap Ordinance (May 2024)
Alcohol Ordinance Amendment (July 2024)
Low Impact Film Ordinance (October 2024)
Tree Permit Sign Ordinance (December 2024)
Annexation and Budget Resolutions
Dresden/Plaster Special Services District Resolution

As you can see, we accomplished a lot in the past year. With these incredible accomplishments in 2024, the City of Chamblee is poised for even greater success in 2025.
